Landers Gaydosh is an American climber from Fayetteville, North Carolina, who has been climbing since the age of three, introduced to the sport by his father at the gym where he worked. What started on a climbing wall in North Carolina quickly became a full commitment, and by his early teens Landers had already built one of the most remarkable young climbing CVs in the US. A true all-rounder across sport, trad, bouldering, ice and competition climbing, his standout achievements include Moonlight Buttress in Zion at just 13 years old and winning the U16 Ice Climbing World Championship in 2022. Now based in Salt Lake City, Utah, he is pushing hard in both competition and outdoors, with his sights set on the US World Team and working toward 8c+.

Get to know Landers

What do you consider your most significant climbing achievement to date?

Either Moonlight Buttress at 13 or sending Ka'Ching (8b+) on my sixth attempt. Both felt like real milestones and mean a lot to me for different reasons.

What is the primary objective remaining on your bucket list?

A route in American Fork Canyon called Ice Cream (8c+/9a). That one has my full attention.

How do you manage the mental pressure of a long-term project?

When I get the feeling I hate my project and the same movements over and over I take a few weeks break and just have fun.  Then when I get back on my project I feel refreshed mentally.

What is the most valuable piece of climbing advice you have received?

The best climber is the one having the most fun.

What has climbing taught you?

Perseverance pays off.

Which crag or mountain is your favourite and which do you consider the most beautiful in the world?

Yosemite Valley. There is nowhere else like it.
